Eastern Taranaki Experience Startford
Eastern Taranaki Experience Stratford is a four day (three night) get-away, located in the very heart of Eastern Taranaki back country. It offers an adventure that most would find difficult to organise because of the transport required at both ends of the walks. It takes in native bush along the Matemateaonga Range then into Aotuhia Station, followed by a days walk along the historic Whangamomona Road, A pleasent three hour walk in the Whangamomona area is enjoyed on the final day. A reasonable degree of fitness is advisable. The walking is easy grade, but two consecutive days are approximately 5 hours followed by three hour forest walk.

Accommodation and Meals
The first two nights are spent with friendy farmstay in the Makahu area. Both offer a linen bed and have swimming available. The third night is at the Whangamomona Hotel.

The first two evening meals are two course catered for by the farmstay hostesses and the third is catered for by the Hotel. At all three places all food is provided to make your own breakfast and lunch for each day. BYO alcohol, which can be chilled.

Trip Outline
First Day/Night - Leave Stratford approx 2pm and travel to Makahu (45 mins). Arrive at the farmstay and settle in, or simply relax or stroll on the farm or swim.

Second Day/Night - Leave 8am after breakfast and travel to the Kohi Saddle (30 mins). Walk 11kms of the Kurapete track then turn right for a 3-4 hour walk along the Matemateaonga Track. Return to farmstay.

Third Day/Night - Leave again at 9am (approx) with day pack and lunch to walk the well know Whangamomona Road (now a papa track). See histroric bridges and walk through two tunnels. Lovely scenic river views all day. Stay for dinner/bed/breakfast at the Whangamomona Hotel or return to farmstay.

Fourth Day - Has opitions of a native bush walk or a walk in the Te Wera Pine Forest. Enjoy a picnic lunch, before returning to Stratford (approx 2:00 - 3:00pm). Visit Mt Damper Falls is a wet day option, same time frame as walk.
